Moving the needle alone is not enough to work safely with every client. A beginner piercer must still be able to assess the anatomy, plan the procedure, select jewelry and maintain asepsis. Equally important is the ability to say "no" when the case is beyond one's experience.

Rush and lack of plan before the procedure

Safe procedure begins before sterile materials are opened. You need to prepare the station, check the equipment, talk to the client and precisely mark the piercing site.

If the order of these steps is different every time, it's easy to miss something. That's why a simple checklist works well at the beginning of your career - it reduces stress and limits improvisation.

Performing a piercing despite inappropriate anatomy

Not every inspiration can be safely recreated. First, you need to assess the anatomical conditions, and only then determine the place and type of jewelry.

If the anatomy does not allow for a given piercing or you lack experience, the right decision is to refuse. You can suggest a safer alternative or refer the customer to a more experienced person.

Random selection of jewelry and poor aseptic control

The material, design and size of the jewelry must match the piercing site and healing stage. You shouldn't choose an ornament just because it looks good.

The same applies to gloves: just putting them on does not protect the procedure. If you touch them to a phone or lamp and then return them to clean materials, contamination occurs.

Lack of after-course care and further training

The course provides a foundation, but does not complete learning. After the training, it is worth documenting cases, analyzing your own decisions and consulting doubts. It is best to expand the scope of services gradually, as your skills grow.

Before signing up, check whether the school provides supervision during the internship and support after classes. It will help you with this list of 10 questions before choosing a course.

An error that is not visible in the photo

The photo taken right after the procedure shows the positioning of the jewelry, but not the entire quality of the work. It does not show whether the interview was complete, whether there was no contamination or what recommendations the client received.

After each case, write down not only the effect, but also the most important decisions, difficult moments and questions for consultation. Such an analysis teaches more than comparing a photo with inspiration.
